Tears of the Earth

From the day that we were born
Sacrificed her time till she was worn
She took care and fed us well
Till we grew up and bid farewell

Then we went on a journey to impress
Ignoring the cries of our mother’s protests
Building castles in the air,
Robbing all her resources bare
Undressing her of her nicest things,
Modifying them for our own living.

The tears in our mother’s eyes
Streaming through the rivers wide
How insensitive we are being,
As blind as mice to what may be coming

Never once a word of gratitude
Leaves her sighing at our attitude
Hoping that one day we will see
How far we have veered from thee
Praying that in time to come
We will once again be reunited as one

This is a poem written for our Language Arts lesson on Man and Nature~
