Summer's Love

It all began with summer’s fun
That lit two hearts aglow
When summer ended it was done
They had to part, she had to go
For the next few years day and night
They yearned to be in each other’s arms
Tears were shed, hearts still broken
Letters sent with no replies
Just before the lady wed
She felt the need to see
The man who promised her a house in white
Which he had done up nicely
The second their eyes met
Their hearts were linked once more
The lady had to choose between two men
Both whom she had loved before
Alas the lady wept
And said goodbye to one
She was reunited with her summer’s love
For the many years to come
But all good had to come to an end
For she fell sick you see
Alzheimer’s the disease she got
A terrible tragedy
Still the man remained faithful
And loved her day and night
He didn’t care where he had to reside
As long as he was by her side
Such a beautiful kind of love
Is rare and thus so dear
To have someone to love with all your heart
Even though in time to come you’ll have to part.

This poem has been written for an end year assignment of mine, and it is in reference to the book and movie, The Notebook, by Nicholas Sparks.
